We are looking for an experienced Specifications Writer. The successful individual will who collaborate with multiple Business Lines within GF including but not limited to; Facilities & Power, Transit and Rail, Earth Sciences, Highways and Bridges, Construction Services to establish & maintain standardized specifications and develop, coordinate and execute technical specifications and project manual documentations for all types of public and private sector facilities for which these Business Lines provide services. The Specifications Writer, prepares specifications for a wide variety of project types, including but are not limited to commercial, industrial, institutional, government, transportation. Other duties may include overseeing & training specification staff.
Principal Responsibilities and essential functions
- Be a technical thought leader and an innovator
- Oversees the preparation of project specifications for assigned projects
- Supports project teams of varying staff levels, including multiple disciplines such as architects and engineers for a positive completion of projects. Assists the team during construction administration activities including but not limited to submittal tasks, field inspections, RFI’s, supplemental work including sketches, or material approval during submittal review process.
- Responsible to coordinate specifications for selected materials and other products.
- Assists with researching and gathering product information to fulfill the design intent. Confers with product representatives and other sources for product data in support of project requirements.
- Prepares redline mark-ups for project drawings and specifications.
- Individual is capable of working proficiently on their own with limited direction.
- Individual has strong time management skills and is capable of recognizing when to ask questions.
- Capable of following direction, managing project / office standards, and implementing constructive criticism to improve work product.
- Assist in producing project proposals and business development activities.
- Experience in dealing with CCDC contract base documents.
- Capable of working in ISO 9001 2015 environment.

Education and Designation requirements
Active member of the CSC (Construction Specifications of Canada) with the following designation,
- RSW (Registered Specification Writer) or
- CSP (Certified Specification Practitioner)
Professional Experience:
- (10) or more years of specification writing experience in an Architectural or Engineering Office.
- Be certified, or work towards designation either as a Construction Specifications of Canada (CSC) Registered Specification Writer (RSW) or Certified Specification Practitioner (CSP)
- Extensive knowledge in SectionFormat/PageFormat and Masterformat guide documents published by CSC.
- Extensive knowledge of construction laws, applicable codes, standards, ordinances, bonds, and insurances in the construction industry
- Proficient at interpreting and understand A/E discipline graphic representation, schedules, and tables on drawings.
- Excellent command of the language to describe the information in written words.
- Excellent knowledge of construction materials, systems, and methods.
- Field experience and knowledge of how work is done onsite
- Working knowledge of design software
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Experienced with Adobe and/or Bluebeam Revu PDF editing and markup software.
- Familiar with LEED and similar sustainable design programs.
