OCL Solicitors is a rapidly expanding law firm dealing largely in Road Traffic Accident Litigation and are looking to recruit trainee solicitors to develop and progress in our business. We have nearly 90 staff and operate from our premises in Doncaster. Our turnover last year was in excess of £5m.
The firm undertakes a variety of work for both Claimants and Defendants ranging from low value personal injury claims to multi million pound claims in our dedicated large loss teams. In addition, we undertake credit hire/repairs litigation again ranging from small claims to multi track.
In this role you will get a good overview of all aspects of the business and become skilled in reviewing liability, vetting for claims fraud, reviewing medical evidence, assessing quantum and prospects and using your negotiation skills to achieve the best possible outcome for our client. At the end of your training contract you will then decide which area of our practice (subject to competence) you will qualify into.
The role is fast paced but requires attention to detail and compliance with Civil Procedure Rules. The ideal candidate will have experience in claims handling and managing an individual case load however all applicants will be considered and full training will be provided to any successful applicants. You will also need to have undertaken the law practice course or equivalent qualification.
There are many disciplines to the role, presenting the opportunity to develop several skill sets. You will work closely with our Fraud, Large Loss and Court departments to flag risks and build your skillset for identifying risk.
A successful candidate must have:
- Ability to learn quickly and work efficiently in a professional environment
- Ability to manage you own case load.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good IT skills (Case Management Systems and Excel)
- Good telephone manner
Key Responsibilities:
- Help the company mitigate losses with thorough reviews and fraud detection.
- Assisting established fee earners.
- Reserve calculation and management.
- Reviewing medical evidence and valuing injuries.
- Reviewing other losses (special damages).
- Negotiating with third party solicitors to achieve settlement before litigation.
- Arranging payments for settlements, costs and disbursements.
Hours: 37.5 hours a week, core hours being Monday- Friday 09:00 – 17:30.
Training will be provided in our Doncaster office, before moving to a hybrid work from home rota.
