System Engineer

Locations: We are recruiting in HYBRID roles from Crawley, Cheadle (Greater Manchester), Templecombe (Somerset), Reading, Belfast, Glasgow and Bristol.

What’s on offer?

It is an exciting time for us at Thales and we are looking to recruit at all levels for our System Engineering functions, and across all of our business lines. These include Avionics, ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance), Training & Simulation, Optronics, Secure Communication Systems & Cyber Security, Underwater and Above Water Systems and Integrated Air Defence.

As a successful candidate, you will be a talented Systems Engineer with experience in at least one part of the V-model. Ideally with an understanding of conceptual or detailed design, integration and delivery, coupled with a proven capability of delivering system programmes.

The roles are based in many of our Thales UK sites and most support a mix of on-site and remote working. Depending on the specific projects, specific roles may require periods to be spent at customer sites and/or integration facilities.

The responsibilities typically include the following

Working collaboratively within and across various teams, often in a matrixed and multi-stakeholder environment. You’ll be responsible for defining and owning the systems engineering activities at various levels of our projects.

Knowledge and skills required

Understanding of systems engineering life cycle, practices and tools. Key experience of multi-stakeholder change management activities

Experience of delivering the engineering content of system level programmes, ideally in land, sea and/or air domains

You will have an understanding of Systems Engineering lifecycle processes, including:

  • Requirements Elicitation
  • System Specification/ Design
  • Interface Specification
  • Test Specification
  • Membership of a professional engineering body preferably with chartered status would be held, or a desire for your future.

In line with Thales' Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years. Some vacancies may require full Security Clearance, which can require further evidence to be provided. Typical Benefits

  • Pension – Thales match, plus 1%, with a max contribution of 7%
  • Health Insurance – 50% of Salary for 5 years
  • Life Assurance – 2 x Minimum (higher if part of the Pension Scheme)
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • Annual Leave 201 hours + 1 Company day (27 Days + Bank Holidays)
  • Annual Bonus or Overtime dependant on grade.
  • 37 Hours per week. (Typically Half Day Friday)
