Here at DS Smith Featherstone, we have an exciting opportunity for a Shift Manager to join our team and play a vital role in the ongoing development of this packaging site. We're looking for leaders to drive the site forward, so communication and people management skills will be essential to your success.
Your job will require you to focus on the performance management of key personnel to ensure that productivity improvement plans are met, also ensuring departmental targets are achieved and actively pursuing improvements in the workplace through cooperation with the Operations Management and other colleagues.
Additionally, you will work alongside other department managers and team leaders to support new change programmes with the goal of improving business performance and reducing costs. Adding this onto the daily responsibility of motivating staff to deliver on KPIs, this role will be constantly engaging and provide you with multiple opportunities to develop yourself, your team, and a site as part of the DS Smith group.
This is a shift-based role operating on a 4 on 4 off (2 x 12 hour days / 2 x 12 hour nights), repeating 7 times then 18 days off.
Main Duties
To ensure a safe working environment is maintained at all times and team compliance with all company safety procedure and legislation.
Meet, exceeds and set where relevant KPIs for safety, quality, and productivity.
To lead, manage, coach and develop teams to achieve productivity and performance targets ensuring consistent quality standards are met.
Collaborate with key stakeholders to promote continuous improvement and drive the overall success of the site.
Work with maintenance teams to ensure all preventative maintenance schedules are effectively planned and actioned to monitor effectiveness and reduce downtime.
Build strong relationships with key stakeholders.
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following key skills:
Previous experience of leading a team
Excellent communication and influencing skills
The ability to set targets and manage performance to achieve these results
It would be beneficial for candidates to have experience of working on a shift rotation
Problem solving ability
Sound analytical skills
A professional attitude based around development and improvement
Strong administration skills
PC literate (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Preferred requirements
Familiarity with Modern Manufacturing Techniques including Lean Manufacturing and 5S
Educated to an A Level standard would be a distinct advantage.
A background in FMCG and Manufacturing is an advantage, but not essential.
