POSITION PURPOSE
A full-time Research Technologist 1 position is available in the McCartney lab in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Washington. The Research Technologist 1 will work on projects in support of studies on immune function during normal pregnancy as well as pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction, and preterm birth.

The technologist will work closely with the PI and a small team in a highly collaborative environment. The candidate will work primarily at the bench, processing human blood and tissue specimens and managing a digital biobank, doing nucleic acid extractions, PCR reactions, functional immunology assays, and flow cytometry. The candidate should over time be able to plan and perform experiments independently and participate in and present research findings at laboratory meetings. Some administrative tasks such coordinating sample transport, managing sample databases, managing projects of moderate size and scope, supervising undergraduates and research assistants, and ordering supplies will be expected.

This position will be located at the Montlake campus of UW Medicine Center. The candidate needs to show strong enthusiasm for their work, be detail-oriented, reliable, and highly organized, possesses a high degree of accountability for the quality of work performed, work independently after a reasonable amount of training, and have excellent technical skills.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Two years experience as a Laboratory Technician II, or equivalent; OR a Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate field of science or technology.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience in processing human samples, cell culture, nucleic acid extraction and qPCR
  • Computing with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word
  • Experience documenting daily work in laboratory notebooks is desired.
