At Montagu Evans, we have continued to focus on 4 primary sectors as we operate a matrix system with departments. These are Healthcare (Led by Gary Howes from Advisory), Town Centres (Led by John Percy from Advisory), London (Led by Olly Maury from Advisory) and Housing (Led by Will Edmonds from Planning).

In addition, Advisory is represented at an Executive Committee level with Alan Harris, Mark Whitfield and Josh Myerson working with Rob Bower (Managing Partner), David Jones (Finance Director), Vicky Thompson (HR Director), Yas Baird (Marketing Director), Craig Blatchford (Head of Planning), Tom Paton-Smith (CAA) and Paul Johnston as NED forming the Partnerships ExecCo

THE TEAM

This role is to sit within our Advisory Department led by Alan Harris and comprises 6 Teams:
  • Asset & Investment Advisory
  • Development Advisory
  • Rating Advisory
  • Residential Valuation Advisory
  • Strategic Advisory
  • Valuation Advisory

Advisory comprises of over 130 experts across all 4 of our national offices.

Advisory benefits from a huge critical mass of expertise and a diversity of experience. Projects can range from:
  • placemaking the evolution of our town centres where we advise owners on asset management and repurposing;
  • strategic development advice to the public and private sector on delivering their medium to long term objectives;
  • minimising the costs of re-development for some of London’s largest developers and optimising healthcare delivery through rating strategy;
  • supporting residential developers value land be that for viability, acquisition or the formation of a new garden town;
  • helping the owners and occupiers of major portfolios secure the correct model both operationally and financially through strategic thinking and problem solving;
  • innovating through valuations of some of the most interesting public and private property portfolios spread across the firms key sectors of Town Centres, Healthcare, Housing and London

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Rating team, which now forms part of the new and improved Advisory Department, is currently divided into three principal work streams:
1. Occupier Rating
2. Landlord Rating
3. Rate Management

The team is now seeking a newly qualified surveyor to join our well-established specialist Landlord Rating Team. The Landlord Rating Team focusses on providing a range of consultancy and appeal services for property owners and developers, where their interaction with the rating world is not necessarily as a consequence of their own occupation. The Landlord stream includes surveyors in three locations (London, Manchester and Glasgow). We also deal with occupied liability on behalf of serviced and managed accommodation providers (e.g. the GPA and serviced offices).

You will work as part of the current team, comprising of Victoria Boateng, Josh Myerson, Paul Surgeon, Ben Pain, Kath Marsden, Alex Horowitz, an Apprentice and a rotating Graduate and will assist the senior members in respect of complex cases, as well as growing, managing and dealing with your own caseload. With Victoria’s recent arrival into the Partnership, this is an exciting opportunity to join a team that is growing.

We offer a stimulating workload as part of a dedicated Rating team with close links with a variety of property disciplines and across a wide range of property sectors. You will be joining one of the most respected teams currently operating in the UK - the Rating team in general enjoys an exceptionally strong reputation in the market and all team members are recognised as experts in their field. As such, you will have the opportunity to work with and on behalf of some truly noteworthy clients (examples set out above) in respect of major property assets, including some of the most ambitious development schemes in London and the wider UK.

Day to day work will involve prosecution of CCA-linked appeal work, provision of consultancy-based advice, liaison directly with clients, involvement in firm-wide initiatives (including Sector Group representation) and working to support the firm’s reputation for excellence through involvement in RSA activities.

Self-determination and motivation to succeed are key but these will be recognised with progress and reward. You will be encouraged to engage in appropriate business development and will be an important member of the team as it continues to maintain its strong reputation in market and to grow both market share and fee income.

MAIN DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • To support senior rating colleagues, including Victoria Boateng, Josh Myerson Paul Surgeon and Ben Pain.
  • To assist with casework but to grow, manage and progress own casework, under appropriate supervision.
  • To assist with training and development of more junior colleagues
  • To have direct contact with, and responsibility for, clients
  • To liaise with the Rate Management Team as required
  • The preparation of valuation data (including analysis of rental, trade and build costs).
  • To assist with, and be responsible for, Retail Town Centre discussions (GPCRs).
  • Property inspection and measurement.
  • Liaising with public bodies (Valuation Officer/Local Billing Authorities) and clients.
  • Business Development.
  • Attendance at client meetings, supervised as appropriate.
  • Valuation Tribunal preparation/attendance as appropriate.
  • Any additional duties as reasonably requested
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATION:
  • RICS Qualified
  • Excellent communicator, both in written and verbal form
  • Able to listen, assimilate and act expeditiously.
  • Strong attention to detail with high service delivery skills
  • Self-motivated and proactive.
  • Committed and organised.
  • Team Player
  • Full driving licence
  • Previous experience of business rates, local authority finance or the Valuation Office (Desirable)
  • Working knowledge of PIMS and Analyse (Desirable)
