The Role : Managing Editor, Polymers and Olefins

The Role : S&P Global Commodity Insights is the leading provider of energy pricing, news, and analytics. We are seeking a Managing Editor to lead a team of European petrochemicals price reporters based in our London office. You will be expected to drive performance and talent development for your team, leading by example in all aspects of market reporting including price assessments, news and commentary, methodology review and market engagement. You will also contribute to strategic initiatives.

The Sector : Petrochemicals is at the heart of Commodity Insights commodity price reporting boasting strong growth.
The Impact : T he position has responsibility for the development and oversight of pricing and content within the fast-growing global petrochemicals sphere, and for driving adoption of Commodity Insights price assessments as benchmarks in the EMEA region.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the execution of robust price assessments, high-quality market commentaries and timely news reporting; ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the team.
Become familiar with the assessment process and cover markets as a frontline reporter as the need arises.
Identify and act on emerging market issues, create open dialogue with external stakeholders regarding assessment and methodology decisions.
Manage key projects to defend and acquire benchmarks, drive change and evolution of our assessment specifications and methodology.
Represent the regional and global team at industry events as presenter, moderator and panelist.
Facilitate news coverage through multiple channels, including real-time, video and audio platforms, features, weekly publications and showcase content.
Identify workflow improvements and efficiencies, implement processes that continually promote productivity and quality.
Lead our effort to define and communicate high performance standards, inspire reporters to strive for those standards.
Focus on leadership development by delegating stretch responsibilities in a way that ensures scope of responsibilities and success measures are clear.
Foster a global mindset within the team, encourage closer collaboration with peers in other regions and understanding of big picture trends.
Essential Skills Required:
Degree educated with at least five years’ experience of reporting/writing/analytics or editorial management.
Working to intra-day deadlines in high pressure environments. Our processes are both daily and weekly and we have frequent intraday deadlines. Efficient running of the team will only be possible if the person filling this position is a master of time management.
Accuracy under time pressure and ability to provide a detailed and accurate review of others. It is critical that we deliver accurate assessments to the market consistently.
Leadership ability which utilizes influence and promotes team collaboration and development, as well as personal accountability. Agility to communicate across a wide range of groups and personalities internally and externally.
Good problem-solving and critical thinking capabilities with a strong track record of execution.
Proven public speaking abilities. This position will be an internal and external ambassador of what we do and must be an accomplished and confident speaker.
Proven real time news abilities. This position will be writing news and analysis on a real-time basis and will also be responsible for driving news in the team.
Strong numeracy and Excel.
Desirable Skills:
Knowledge of the petrochemicals markets and commodity trading.
Experience in price reporting and assessing commodities.
Higher degree education, such as a Master’s degree or PhD.
Languages a plus.
