Job summary

The Joint Air Delivery Test and Evaluation Unit (JADTEU) is a unique unit within Defence responsible through design, trails, and evaluation for enabling the delivery by air of personnel by parachute, and or machines and materiel as internal aircraft loads, underslung helicopter loads, and loads delivered by parachute from aircraft in flight. JADTEU's intent throughout is to enhance Defence capability by assurance of safety, design compliance, efficiency and effectiveness. As part of the Air and Space Warfare Centre (ASWC), JADTEU is recognised as the sole authority to conduct this activity through design assurance and physical evaluation of equipment. JADTEU's products include trials reports, load preparation instructions, publications content, and drills and procedures. JADTEU is based at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire.

The Information and Tech Support post is pivotal for ensuring the smooth running of IT systems and Information Flow, to enable JADTEU's output to Defence.

Elements of the role must be performed on-site, but some remote working will be possible with a personal issue MODNET laptop.

This post attracts a Functional - IT Manager RRA: £1000 RRA after one year satisfactory performance with a further £1500 RRA after two years satisfactory service

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

Info and Tech Spt Mgr is responsible to Commanding Officer JADTEU through the Business Support Manager for the efficient management of all hard and soft copy data held within JADTEU in accordance with MoD Information Management (IM) policies and the timely and efficient support of the IT that supports JADTEU Trials.

Who are we looking for?

Whilst we have no preconceptions as to what sectors or industries you will have worked in, it is important that you provide detailed evidence and examples of proven experience at Executive Officer (EO) level (please see CS Behaviours linked below), that demonstrates the essential criteria and where possible the desirable criteria.

Training may be provided to support the role delivery if required.

Person specification

  • The Information Management of all electronically held data within JADTEU, developing and maintaining File Store and Shared Working Areas such as SharePoint (SPOL) procedures dictate. (Ensure that IM policy procedures are followed within JADTEU in accordance with JSP 747, 441 and AP 7002). Maintain the electronic filing system within the JADTEU Shared Working Area and the JADTEU File Store.
  • Configuration, Administration and Maintenance of JADTEU retained IT Systems on separate LAN’s including, but not limited to, Computer Aided Design (CAD/FE) system, Graphics and Tech Author Publications, CD/DVD Publication system, Wide Format Plotting System, Audio Visual (AV) systems, and Standalone Broadband terminals.
  • Identifying and fixing non-MODNET hardware and software problems using whatever means are available, e.g. Spare parts sourced from ASWC, through them Small Systems Maintenance contract or from other similar out of order equipment.
  • Designing, Building and Evolving Sharepoint for JADTEU and preparing a way forward for future MoD IM procedures and policies.
  • Administration of MODNET purchases for accounts, equipment etc through the ISS catalogue ordering system.
  • Act as Local Security Officer (LSO) and as an Authorised Demander (AD) for JADTEU (Including Password resets, admin for group data access, new accounts, moving users between roles and sites.
  • In accordance with ASWC and MoD policies and guidance, the implementation of the strategy for best-practice IM throughout JADTEU to meet business and/or operational objectives to include identification of present and forthcoming unit IT training requirements in conjunction with the current IT state.
  • Act as Branch Records Officer (BRO) advising Unit personnel on both Electronic and Hard Copy file management matters and maintain Document and DATA Control Procedures. Maintain classified documents, including MOD 102’s
  • Ensure up-to-date guidance and support is available to help staff make best use of information and MODNET capabilities.
  • Act as Unit Freedom Of Information (FOI) Officer and ensure Unit compliance with current legislation including FOI Act, Data Protection Act and any other relevant legislative procedures including responsibility for the JADTEU input to the Air Information Asset Register.
  • Act as the Unit Security Officer (USyO) looking after all aspects of Unit Security including but not limited to: Physical, Information, Personnel, and CIS.
  • Administration of JADTEU Secret files including raising and closing, 10 and 100% checks.
  • Ordering and control of JADTEU consumables and section stationery bids through CP&F, this includes co-ordinating with suppliers to request quotes and checking existing orders.
  • Supporting JADTEU off station activities and tasks by maintaining and supplying laptops and peripheral equipment e.g. portable printers, projectors, media sticks, and wifi dongles.
  • Deputise for the Business Support Manager in their absence.
