Job summary
Summary of the role:
To provide personal medical care to our general practice patients including direct treatment planning, preventative medical care, screening, patient education and support your colleagues in the wider clinical team.
Responsibilities of the role:
As a qualified Registered General Nurse, the post holder with contribute to patient care including the following:
- Full range of nursing treatment are care plans
- Able to provide both general and specific health screening for the practice patients with referral to general practitioners as necessary
- Advise patients on general health care and minor ailments
- Manage Nurse led Chronic Disease Clinics including spirometry, COPD, Asthma and Diabetes
- General Treatment Room duties
- Support Health Care Assistants as required and assist with training and development
- Cervical cytology
- Venepuncture
- Flu vaccinations/COVID vaccinations/seasonal vaccination demands as well as immunisations, travel and routine baby clinics
- Ear syringing
- Complex wound dressings
- Travel vaccination clinic
- This list is not exhaustive and can be added to and changed at any time
- Following appropriate training or using your existing skills, the post holder will undertake the processes regarding pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears etc. in line with the course of your work
Administrative and professional responsibilities
- Take part in mandatory training both in person and electronically
- Communicate electronically as required consistently and attend meetings as required
- Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team
- Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients’ notes on the clinical IT system as appropriate
- Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care
- Attend and participate in practice meetings as required
- Apply practice policies and maintain clinical standards at all times
- Participate in audit where appropriate
- Maintain effective liaison with other agencies and staff concerned with patient care and with all other disciplines within the practice, with appropriate regard to confidentiality
- Able to support with COVID-related reactive processes and liaise with our Duty
Nurse and Link Nurse teams as required and ensure good relationships are sustained with the community nursing teams
Practice projects
- Required to participate with any relevant research or information/audit projects within the practice and to support with QOF and CQC guidance and requirements
Student and colleagues training
- Participate in the education and training of students of all disciplines and support with the induction of your colleagues.
- Support with any work experience students as required
Professional development
- Maintain continued education by attendance at courses and study days as deemed useful or necessary for professional development in line with NMC Code of Conduct
- You must ensure you are registered with the NMC and any relevant councils or organisations in the context of your work
- You must ensure you are able to revalidate in good time and to meet the expectations of your role and professional registrations

Induction
At Whitewater Health, you will be required to complete the induction programme and the practice management team will support you throughout the process.
Learning and development
The effective use of training and development is fundamental in ensuring that all staff are equipped with the appropriate skills, knowledge, attitude and competences to perform their role. All staff will be required to partake in and complete mandatory training as directed by the practice manager. It is an expectation for this post holder to assess their own learning needs and undertake learning as appropriate
The post holder will undertake mentorship for team members and disseminate learning and information gained to other team members to share good practice and inform others about current and future developments (e.g., courses and conferences).
The post holder will provide an educational role to patients, carers, families and colleagues in an environment that facilitates learning.
Collaborative working
All staff are to recognise the significance of collaborative working and understand their own role and scope and identify how this may develop over time. Staff are to prioritise their own workload and ensure effective time-management strategies are embedded within the culture of the team.

Managing information

Staff will be given detailed information during the induction process regarding policy and procedure.
The post holder must adhere to the information contained within the organisation’s policies and regional directives, ensuring protocols are always adhered to.
Security
The security of the organisation is the responsibility of all personnel. The post holder must ensure they always remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately to their line manager.
Under no circumstances are staff to share the codes for the door locks with anyone and are to ensure that restricted areas remain effectively secured. Likewise, password controls are to be maintained and are not to be shared.
Professional Conduct
All staff are required to dress appropriately for their role.
