Job Status: Exempt

Position Summary:

Assist in the planning, developing, and coordinating of the preparation of financial analyses and reports including, but not limited to, operational and grants, financial statements, treasury management, cost analyses, and other financial information; perform complex and specialized assignments in assigned areas of expertise.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the Financial Operations department in the preparation and assembly of the University’s financial statements. This will consist of the annual audited year-end financial statements and monthly-unaudited financial statements.
  • On a weekly basis, the Financial Analyst will be responsible for treasury management such as wires, ACH/Check file processing, and drawdowns.
  • On a monthly basis, the Financial Analyst will be responsible for multiple balance sheet account reconciliations: cash, receivables, prepaid expenses, investments, accounts payable, grants, agency funds, and notes payable.
  • Lead a portion of the University year-end external audit by completing various financial statement sections. Work with external auditors to provide support schedules and documentation as needed for a successful audit engagement.
  • Act as the Financial Operations department functional lead on multiple programs funded by grants, sponsored programs, or special revenue funds. These functions will include: preparing financial projections and budgets, actual vs. budget reporting, reviewing/monitoring of individual grants and transactions for compliance with private, local, state, and federal fund requirements, billing and collections, journal entries, and financial grant reporting including preparation of reports for granting authorities and the University’s annual report.
  • Coordinate and manage monthly meetings with appropriate staff overseeing grants.
  • Assist in identifying operational problems, issues, obstacles, and solutions related to Financial Operations based on metrics data, internal audit reports, and input from departmental managers.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret financial data, and identify corresponding policy implications and/or recommendations. Prepare various financial reports and analyses. Assist in monitoring and analyzing financial trends, prioritize opportunities for improvement, and facilitate efforts to implement enhancements to HCU processes and systems.
  • Apply project management skills including creating work plans, scheduling work to meet deadlines, obtaining documentation, preparing working papers, researching/resolving issues, and working with internal/external constituents to communicate the status of projects.
  • Produce and analyze sections of special projects or participate in additional departmental and administrative services as needed.
  • Key personnel in the onboarding of new grants employees and a leader in the training of all users on how to effectively utilize the University’s financial operating system.
  • May oversee department student workers as needed.
  • Perform other duties as needed.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to quickly learn University systems such as Internet Native Banner, Husky Net, Argos, and other financial reporting tools.
  • Ability to coordinate the implementation of solutions, to identify and analyze accounting and other finance-related issues.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines with accuracy.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with senior leadership from the Financial Operations department.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain a positive and professional image.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift equipment and materials up to 20 lbs.
  • Operate office equipment and copier.
  • Ability to walk reasonable distances around campus.
