This role is a full-time opportunity, but flexible working patterns will be considered.

Location: This role is based at Quadrant:MK. For roles based in the Quadrant:MK, you must live within 75/90 minutes. All NCB employees work in a hybrid way and so this role will involve a mixture of working from home and the Milton Keynes office.

Brief Description


About the function

Network Certification Body (NCB) is a dynamic independent company within the Network Rail Group; we provide infrastructure and rail vehicle assessment services in the UK and European rail industry and we’re growing to meet the needs of this expanding market. We provide a comprehensive range of certification services, covering all the legislation that a rail engineering project require, and we need talented people like you to join us. You’ll develop your career whilst playing a key role in the safety of rail vehicles on the operational railway of the future.


Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a hardworking and customer focussed individual to work with senior leadership to deliver against the Network Certification Body’s (NCB) sales targets. Someone who can demonstrate a ‘customer first’ approach to the role and finds it easy to build relationships with prospective clients.






About the role (External)


What does the average day look like?

In this role you will maintain and strengthen relationships with new, developing and established clients in the assigned market sector, whilst managing an active stakeholder map, increasing profitability of customer accounts. You will also produce high quality proposals, in line with the bid process, by collaborating with the Sales & Marketing and Delivery functions, continually increasing NCB’s tender success rate and profitability. This also includes collaborating with the delivery function being the principal point of contact for end to end client account issues, continually improving the customer experience and probability of repeat business. You will identify internal and external opportunities to promote NCB’s products and service offering, to increase customer engagement and continually grow NCB as a business. Day to day you will produce weekly reports on the sales pipeline for customer accounts so that the management team can track progression against periodic targets and risks to delivery of NCB objectives can be identified and effectively managed. You will also identify new product developments in the market that will allow NCB to diversify its service catalogue, enhancing current and future years committed work so that NCB can achieve its business objectives.


What essential skills and experiences are required?

  • Educated to higher level education, or equivalent qualification in a Business or Sales discipline, or demonstrable professional experience
  • Successfully able to influence and manage stakeholders, internal and external at all levels
  • Excellent communications and presentational skills
  • Strong commercial focus
  • Strong negotiations skills with the ability to understand customer needs
  • Experience in a customer facing role with a proven track record of meeting KPIs
  • Strong networking capabilities

We would also like, but not essential.

  • Railway industry knowledge, including experience in the conduct of, or management of railway certification.
  • Sales experience within the rail industry
  • Working towards a Membership of a relevant professional body with chartered status (E.g. NASP)
