Overview:
Artemis Technologies is an applied technology spin-off from the Artemis Racing America‘s Cup Team, founded in 2017 to commercialise the hydro-foiling and tool chain intellectual property developed by the team. The Role:
The Compliance Engineer will report to the Head of Compliance and ensure that all systems and projects undertaken by Artemis Technologies reach the required compliance outcomes. This covers all disciplines of mechanical design, engineering, integration, propulsion, naval architecture, electrical and simulation and to ensure that ATL can execute their commitments. The department is critical for the delivery and performance of all ATL products.
The Compliance Engineer will be responsible for supporting design and engineering activities from a compliance perspective - providing guidance as to which regulations their vessels, systems and batteries should comply to. Assisting Senior Engineers and collaborating with peers, the Compliance Engineer will assist and advise on developing innovative, world class solutions to complex integration and mechanical design and naval architecture problems within the bounds of the regulatory framework. It is expected that the role will be fulfilled in the ATL offices in Northern Ireland.
Key responsibilities include supporting and reporting to the Head of Compliance as per each project‘s needs and the boat development and commercial programs where required.
You will work with the ATL technical team departments, assisting and coordinating the planning and certification specifications and reporting to enable commercialization of ATL products by obtaining the required compliance documentation and testing. This may include specification of components and subsystems relating to batteries or electric propulsion systems or other ATL projects. The Compliance Engineer will be required to sift standards and regulations and assist in drawing up compliance roadmaps. Additionally, you will work with external parties to obtain required compliance documentation.
The Compliance Engineer will assist in maintaining and reporting on the ATL project planning tools and work closely with ATL design team to ensure designs are of the highest standard and delivered as per regulatory requirements in line with project schedule / milestones.
The Person:
The Compliance Engineer will ideally possess a University degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or other relevant engineering discipline (2:1 Hons or above is preferred) and ideally holding more than two years‘ relevant professional experience in the marine industry. Experience of composites, electric propulsion systems or hybrid propulsion and some knowledge of the UK maritime regulatory framework an advantage.
You will be conversant with reading 2D technical drawings for production, demonstrate a broad working knowledge of materials, especially of FRP, and including mechanical testing methods. The Compliance Engineer will be familiar with mechanical systems integration, especially relating to rotating equipment / electric propulsion & associated systems.
The Compliance Engineer will be familiar with analysis and verification through risk assessment, possess an understanding of class and statutory rules and regulations and their application to vessel design and be experienced in basic ship safety systems.
You will highlight good report writing skills, demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and build co-operative and collaborative working relationships, both internally and externally. The Compliance Engineer will work in an organized, open, and transparent manner, showing excellent awareness of project milestones and mission-critical timeframes.
