The opportunity
We are seeking a bilingual Communications and Social Media Officer to play a pivotal role in supporting our Communications, PR and Media and Events colleagues with the delivery of external and internal activity through the medium of Welsh and English. You'll work closely with our Social Media Officer to build aligned campaigns for various channels, ensuring content is tailored to meet key audience requirements to increase engagement and raise the reputation of Cardiff Met. A vital aspect of the role will be to manage the University's public information, media relations, and copywriting needs in both English and Welsh.
In addition, as our Communications and Social Media Officer you will:
- Ensure external messages are consistent and accurate, including coordinating bilingual (English/Welsh) content.
- Manage corporate related content on Cardiff Metropolitan University’s Social Media channels and work closely with the Social Media Officer to align content to the overall plans created by the Brand and Content team.
- Ensure key messages are delivered in a consistent, professional tone of voice.
- Work closely with staff across the University to identify potential news stories and critical communications messages and write and distribute news stories, social media posts, blogs, opinion pieces etc
- Support the Stakeholder team in the management of staff and student communications including producing and writing multi-media content for email newsletters, online platforms, social media and on-campus displays.
- Support the Corporate Events team particularly in creating, editing, reviewing all associated communications.
- Collaborate with School Marketing Officers to support marketing plans and aid student recruitment.
What you’ll bring
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate fluently in Welsh and English.
- Proven experience of managing social media channels.
- Extensive experience of developing, writing and editing high quality, engaging communications for a wide range of audiences and channels.
- Experience in building effective stakeholder relationships with proven ability to effectively negotiate, persuade and influence to achieve strategic objectives.
- Ability to develop and deliver proactive communication campaigns and work to brand guidelines.
- Ability to create multimedia content with strong IT skills, specifically including the use of Microsoft Teams, content management, word processing, spreadsheets, email, and image editing.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with tact and discretion and liaise confidently with colleagues at all levels both inside and outside of the university
- Qualified to degree level or equivalent in a communications/PR/ marketing related field.
