As a Babcock Vehicle Engineering (BVE) Technical Apprentice you will work on a wide range of Civilian Land Equipment. The tasks are challenging and varied in an exciting environment producing work which ensures our customers, specifically the Police forces, have equipment they can depend on. We have a selection of specialist roles across the engineering disciplines, including Vehicle Mechanics, Vehicle Electronics, Fabricators & Welders and Coach builders.
Apprentices will be trained to IMI Level 2 Auto-care Technician Standard (Vehicle Mechanics) combined with a Level 3 NNQ in After Market VCQ. The academic aspects of the apprenticeship will be delivered to Light Vehicle Technician Standard over a 3-phase period with annual phase gateways at the end of each academic year to confirm learners’ progression to the next phase of the standard. The role is based from Vehicle Engineering in Walsall but with the opportunity to work from other sites for short periods to broaden your experience.
All 1st Year Apprentices will also complete a mandatory one-week residential outward bound training course.
Possible placements:
Apprentices will work at a variety of locations across the site and will move around to gain an insight into all the operations on site. There is a requirement to attend college, training will be done both onsite and at the college location.
Qualifications you’ll get:

- IMI Level 2 Autocare
- NNQ level 3 Aftermarket VCQ
What you’ll need:
Individual employers will set their criteria; typically, 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above, including English, Maths and a Science or Technology based subject.
Apprentices without level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level before taking the end-point assessment.
The apprentice must demonstrate the core requirements below and demonstrate the specialist requirements in their chosen role.
